The 10 Rules Of Good Dishwasher Use

To use your appliance intelligently, to save water and energy, to carry out optimal maintenance, to guarantee many years of use, and to ensure that it works at its best, read our tips.

1. Always run your dishwasher on a full load, this way you will save water and energy.

2. Always use salt (as a rule, every 2 weeks). Once you have filled the designated tray, make sure that you have closed the lid properly, because if the water comes into contact with the salt during the wash cycle, all your kitchenware will be covered in a light coating of white powder.

3. Always rinse your dishes before washing, to remove food residues, avoid bad smells, and avoid using the pre-wash setting, saving energy and water. As an alternative to rinsing, wipe dirty plates with a piece of paper, even newspaper.

4. Don’t use dish soap for any reason, not even to rinse your dishes before washing. The foam from possible residues could leak out of the dishwasher during the cycle.

5. Use a good quality detergent, both for better washing performance and to help preserve your dishwasher: low-quality detergents could block the water circuit. To improve its washing power, you can choose to keep your dishwasher in perfect condition with a special descaling and degreasing treatment: Mister Magic Protector Dishwasher Care.

6. Use rinse aid, which, during the rinse cycle, allows the water to flow off surfaces faster, limiting the formation of scale marks and white streaks (avoid natural substances such as vinegar). Try to moderate its use, however, by turning the tab of the tray to minimum: too much rinse aid has a negative effect on the final result of the wash.

7. Deodorise your dishwasher with dedicated products (such as the Mister Magic Fish) rather than with lemon, whose seeds and fibres can block some of the internal mechanisms.

8. Alternate the various types of wash (normal, intensive, quick), in order to help the dishwasher’s internal parts stay perfectly clean. Indeed, washes at a high temperature clear the internal water circuits of various residues thanks to the hot water. It is a good idea to use products that guarantee degreasing, anti-bacterial and descaling action (such as Mister Magic Protector Dishwasher Care).

9. Unload the dishes immediately at the end of the wash, without waiting, because they could get wet again from the steam inside. By choosing the “Hot air dry” option and opening the door early, you will shorten the cycle, save 45% of the energy, and the dishes will dry in the fresh air.

 10. Load the dishwasher following a system: insert each item in its designated space, and remember that saucepans need to be put upside-down, and deep dishes and flat plates shouldn’t be mixed together. Don’t overdo it and load too much – the wash will be compromised because the water won’t be able to access all areas.
